STRATA|B is a story of a fragment of Bucharest, a time-frame and digital spaces. Back in 2014 there was a time when interactions between people and the walls of buildings in a part of the old city center were meticulously recorded. I visited these walls, or what was left of them, on a regular basis, and photographed them as old acquaintances.

A lot of traces didn’t last long. Very few became sparkling white, some melted in a decaying grimy and grey. The questions I had left home with gave way to others: Where do all the colors of these traces go when the wall is cleaned or becomes an indefinite grey plaster altogether? Whose white is it? Whose grey is it? Can you create a wall that includes all those interactions with people? What color would it be?

Here began the second part of the project and the construction of a digital space that includes in it – encoded – all the signs and colors originally discovered on the walls that I had previously photographed. The book contains, in a circular formula, photographs of the walls observed together with their digital transformations into color grids and landscapes of words.

For the story to continue, I added a real sample from a wall where my journey began, along with the geographical indications of the place. After you watch the book, you can go right there where the sample was taken or you can simply enter the coordinates and walk on Google Maps, and start your own journey from that very first place. The project and the book in its final form were made possible thanks to Cristian Bassa, the editor I am particularly grateful to.

The number of copies of this edition of the “STRATA|B” album is 100, each circularly numbered, according to the pages of the book. Each copy contains a material sample from the city walls.

STRATA|B este o poveste cu o bucată de București, un interval de timp și spații digitale. La început, în 2014, a fost un timp al observației interacțiunilor dintre oameni și zidurile clădirilor dintr-o parte a centrului vechi al orașului. Am vizitat periodic zidurile fotografiate sau ce mai rămăsese din ele, ca pe niște vechi cunoștințe.

Multe urme nu au stat locului. Câteva, puține, au devenit, în timp, albe, unele s-au amestecat într-o ternă degradare. Întrebările cu care plecasem de acasă au lăsat loc altora: Unde se duce toată culoarea acestor interacțiuni când zidul este curățat sau devine cu totul o tencuială gri indefinită? Al cui e albul? Al cui e griul? Poți crea un zid care să cuprindă în el toate acele interacțiuni cu oamenii? Ce culoare ar avea?

De aici a început partea a doua a proiectului și construcția unui spațiu de gândire digital care să includă în el codificate toate semnele și culorile descoperite inițial pe ziduri. Cartea cuprinde, într-o formulă circulară, fotografii ale zidurilor observate împreună cu transformările digitale ale acestora în grile de culoare și peisaje de cuvinte.

Pentru ca povestea să continue, am adăugat un semn real de pe un zid (un eșantion de zid) din bucata mea de oraș, împreună cu indicațiile geografice ale locului. După ce răsfoiești cartea, poți merge chiar acolo sau poți introduce coordonatele pe Google Maps și poți începe o călătorie în timp, din acel loc. Proiectul și cartea în forma sa finală au fost o misiune posibilă datorită lui Cristian Bassa, editorul cărții, căruia doresc să îi mulțumesc pe această cale.

Tirajul „STRATA|B” este de 100 de exemplare, înseriate circular, conform sistemului de paginare utilizat în carte. Fiecare exemplar conține un semn material de pe zidurile orașului.
